An interactive experience to inspire the next generation of medical professionals.
On Wednesday, August 17, Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades (VIM) will host 20 – 25 students from Prineville, Redmond and Sisters who are enrolled in the Juntos after school program. Juntos is a program through Oregon State University’s Open Campus that aims to prepare Latino middle and high school students and their families for college.
The purpose of the program:
1) To give each student a hands-on experience of what it means to be a medical professional;
2) To inspire students to think of the medical field and its many support services as possible career paths;
3) To inform students of the medical career paths available through COCC, OSU- Cascades, and other colleges.
Students will be divided into five small groups and will rotate through the following stations to engage in the same interactive workthat a medical professional would do.
A – The Brain
B – Vitals Signs and Lab Testing
C – Orthopedics
D – Pharmacy
E – Medical Interpreting
VIM medical volunteers will lead each session while supported by VIM staff.
Lunch is being donated by Port of Subs in Bend.
