Stroke Awareness Oregon is pleased to announce that Ted W. Baxter, author of Relentless: How a Massive Stroke Changed my Life for the Better will be speaking at Westside Church in the chapel on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 for a free event, open to the public. Who should attend? Those facing adversity, stroke survivors, healthcare professionals, caregivers or anyone interested in Ted’s story.
Doors will open at 6pm, and the program will start at 6:30pm, followed by a book signing. Books will be available for sale at the event.
Baxter (MBA, Wharton) was an auditor and management consultant at Price Waterhouse, passed all four parts of the CPA exam in one take and built a financial services consulting practice in Tokyo for Price Waterhouse, becoming partner in record time. After working in the Asia-Pacific for Price Waterhouse and Credit Suisse First Boston, he became a managing director at Citadel LLC, a premiere hedge fund and global financial institution. He retired after 22 years in the financial industry. In April 2005, he experienced a massive ischemic stroke. He’s now an advocate, author and speaker on strokes, aphasia, inspiration and motivation.
“Despite medical advances and increasing awareness of strokes, this tragic and all-too common medical condition is frequently misunderstood,” said Baxter. “Almost a quarter of those who suffer from strokes are under the age of 65, and between 10 percent and 15 percent of those who suffer from stroke are 45 or younger. Some studies indicate that strokes among those 49 and under may also be on the rise.
“No matter how old we are, recovering from a stroke depends on education and quick thinking. I had a massive ischemic stroke myself 14 years ago that left me in a state of profound devastation. To rebuild my life I had to commit to the hard work of recovering. In dealing with setbacks along the way, I learned what worked for me, and what didn’t.”
