Yes, February is the month of Love. It all starts as a child and exchanging Valentines at school then as you grow up and get married you look forward to a night out with your spouse or perhaps a special flower delivery to celebrate love.
Love is universal and never ending. Fox Hollow residents celebrate love in many ways. We decorate the community with hearts and have a celebration with good food and music, of course, but more important is how our residents and staff love to give to the community.
Over the years we have had events to earn money to give to Habitat for Humanity, The Parkinson’s Council of Central Oregon and The Alzheimer’s Association. Fox Hollow hosts an annual breakfast to thank the Bend Firefighters in the Spring. Currently we are organizing a team for Relay for Life to benefit The American Cancer Society and our residents are taking part in The Hearts of Love project with the Waldorf School of Bend.
It is such a joyous sight to see seniors and children interacting with each other! This gives our residents the chance to work alongside the students of The Waldorf School making hearts of all shapes and sizes to give to the citizens of Bend.
Early on Sunday, February 14, these hearts are hung from trees all over downtown. Anyone can take a heart off a tree and keep it. Last year 650 hearts were given away and this year the goal is 1,500!
Many of our residents are busy making hearts and one of our residents has made over 300 hearts for this project. The love of giving is strong at Fox Hollow. Many folks have told me they love the warm family feeling when they walk in our door. This is true any time of year. I invite you to come by Fox Hollow and feel the love.
