The Peaks 360, a rural residential community centered around sustainability, announced a set of financial contributions to Northwest Outward Bound School, an educational institution that immerses students in nature and outdoor resources to teach valuable life skills.

Northwest Outward Bound School operates in three program areas: Central Oregon, North Central Washington and Portland. The programming offered is centered around outdoor experiential learning, utilizing activities like backpacking, kayaking, rock climbing, mountaineering and more for students of a range of ages, from middle and high school to adults; some programs are specifically offered for veterans.

“We take students out on multi day or multi week trips,” said the school’s executive director, Marc Heisterkamp. “We use the outdoors as our classroom. That’s our whiteboard, our computer, our projector… to help accomplish the educational goals that we’re striving for.”

Those goals, according to Heisterkamp, are character development, compassion, integrity, and leadership skills.

The Peaks 360, in support of the nonprofit’s goals and values, provided a set of financial contributions. A $25,000 contribution was made in January of 2022 to support strategic staff growth.

Another $25,000 contribution was made in September 2023 to support sustaining Northwest Outward Bound School’s work and staff leadership in further offering community-based programming in all three of its locations. The team at The Peaks 360 believes growing local partnerships is crucial to Northwest Outward Bound School maintaining strong enrollment during this time and broadening their programming to reach more youth in the communities that they serve.

“We’ve established a relationship with The Peaks 360 based on their desire to support Central Oregon youth, and to support organizations who want to grow in capacity and have a greater impact here in the local community,” said Heisterkamp. “Our strategic focus is to help support the youth of the communities we serve and to grow in a way that helps better the entire community, and we appreciate The Peaks 360 support and alignment with this goal.”
