Join Discover Your Forest and the Deschutes National Forest for a screening of America’s First Forest, on Thursday, September 29 at McMenamins in Bend.

The film tells the story of legendary forester and educator Carl Schenck, and how he was able to realize Frederick Law Olmsted’s vision of introducing forestry to America on a 120,000 forest in North Carolina that became America’s first scientifically managed forest. The nation’s first forestry school would later be founded there, and the call for creating national forests in the eastern United States was inspired.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the film begins at 6pmat McMenamins, at 700 NW Bond Street, Bend. The total runtime of the film is fifty-five minutes and it is suitable for individuals of all ages. The theater holds approximately 130 people. Tickets can be purchased for $5 at the door the night of the event.

The event is sponsored by Discover Your Forest, the nonprofit Friends of the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forest and Crooked River National Grassland.
