Act, Adapt and Prosper from Climate Change while avoiding the risks to business and quality of life: It’s the theme of a Climate Conference, Climate Change: Solutions & Opportunities, which will be held October 3-4, in Bend at the Mount Bachelor Conference Center. Award winning Mayor of Eugene, Kitty Piercy, will be the luncheon speaker on the Successful Urban Action Experience.

Local favorite, and owner of Worthy Brewery, Roger Worthington, will begin the event by speaking about Going Green: Great for the Planet and the Bottom Line.

This is a conference for everyone: individuals, businesses, and government. Sessions provide participants with information about how to save money, adapt to a changing climate, and minimize the increasing risks that many forecast will be both costly and catastrophic, should business proceed as usual.

A Bend City Council Proclamation urges all to attend, as well as Bend Parks and Recreation who urge community involvement. Participants are expected from throughout Central Oregon. 350Deschutes, a climate education nonprofit, will host the event which features experts from forestry, water resources, sustainability programs, the clean energy sector, green infrastructure and more.

There are 16+ sessions that cover a wide range of topics. Climate and Energy Planners from Portland and Eugene will provide guidance as well as lessons learned from decades of climate planning. Portland was the first climate plan in the nation, in 1993 and has been recognized numerous times as a leader in this area. Solutions for Central Oregon are expected to be developed through broad-based citizen participation.

Day two will feature a Climate Café, where participants will network, and share their ideas for the most promising options for Central Oregon. All to be shared with local leaders.
