Becky and Brian Vaughan say their business started when “Max dog,” a beloved pet, passed. They went to Eugene to have Max cremated as a show of their love and devotion. In that process, they saw there was a gap in pet cremation options east of the Cascades and wanted to bring the same peace of mind to locals they had received.

After 10 years assisting people with the passing of their pets, Becky realized, “the importance of getting personalized attention when faced with the loss of a pet. You need and deserve the same care and compassion as those who have experienced a human loss.”

Horizon offers private and general options. With private your pet will be returned to you within 72 hours in a crafted wooden box accompanied by a lovely card. With the general or the community option, pet’s ashes are scattered at a beautiful family ranch on the North Fork of the John Day River. Becky is available seven days a week and although main hours are 8-5pm, she is available at anytime to patrons in need of Horizon’s services.

Horizon uses the industry’s top equipment in their afterlife processing, a Matthews Retort.

When performing crematory services, Horizon keeps triple records including an information card that travels with the pet at all times, a listing for fuel used corresponding to each pet and a video recording is continually running. Becky can work directly with clients or with health care providers to make arrangements for cremation.

Becky understands, “bereavement due to loss of a pet can often be as traumatic as that of a human loss. Our goal is to make this process as stress free and comfortable as possible. Your pet is cared for with the same respect you have given them during their precious time on Earth.”

She shares, “our biggest reward in this business is knowing that we are there when needed, and that we were able to provide folks with a service that is caring and sensitive to their needs.” Becky says this includes educating pet owners on the choices they have with an after care provider. She believes it is important to have after care as part of the pets records.

“When that information is stated in advance, then there is much less to worry about it at the end of life or when illness strikes.”

Before assisting patrons with their pet losses, Becky sold real estate, worked in corporate sales and raised beef cattle and quarter horses.
