KPOV Works to Connect with the Community during the Spring 2018 Membership Drive

KPOV 88.9 High Desert Community Radio is holding its spring membership drive from April 20-28. KPOV is the only non-profit public radio station originating from Bend, broadcasting throughout Deschutes County and the Prineville area. It is supported by listeners and local businesses and powered by volunteers.

Noncommercial community radio is grassroots media created by local volunteers seeking a voice in broadcasting that truly represents the people.

KPOV has been serving as that voice in Central Oregon for 13 years. The community station went on the air for the first time on June 25, 2005 as a two-watt, low-power FM station reaching the Bend area. KPOV’s Bond Street studio was built and operated by volunteers. All original programming was produced by volunteer local DJs, as it still is today.

KPOV is now a full power station serving most of Central Oregon.

“From our first day, KPOV has worked to be the sound of our community. We offer our listeners local people discussing local issues, real news and analysis, live local music, and DJs from the community playing music they select themselves,” says Station Manager Jill Mahler. “KPOV is true community radio, created by the people and for the people of Central Oregon.”

The goal of KPOV’s spring membership drive is to raise $30,000 to help support KPOV programming and operations throughout 2018.

Along with thank you gifts at various member donation levels, KPOV will offer donors entry into a grand prize drawing on April 30 for two tickets to The Decemberists Concert at Les Schwab Amphitheater this summer.

Pledges received on or before April 20 at 3:00 p.m. automatically qualify donors for entry into an early bird drawing* for a $50 gift card to Drake Downtown Bend restaurant. More details on prize drawings and how to enter can be found at kpov.org.
Thank you gifts include handmade ceramic mugs from Mug Revolution, a KPOV cap, a KPOV live, local music CD, a pound of Strictly Organic coffee and a ticket to KPOV’s Will Durst show on May 19.

KPOV is a listener-supported, volunteer-powered, nonprofit community radio station that broadcasts at 88.9 FM and live on the web at kpov.org. High Desert Community Radio offers locally-produced programs not heard on any other radio stations in the area, including civic affairs, election coverage, and the most diverse music programming in Central Oregon.
