Small Farmer Support Program Takes the Next Step

Central Oregon Locavore successfully launched a local foods marketplace last year and in the process made a major discovery. There’s simply not enough supply to meet the demand for fresh, local produce, meats and value-added products in this region. The solution? Grow the supply.

Locavore is ready to do just that with an innovative Small Farmer Support Program, which aims to provide resources directly to existing growers and new farmers. Through elements such as a grant program, a specialized farm equipment tool bank, a mentorship plan, and a beefed-up corps of farm volunteers, Locavore intends to help seasoned farmers scale up and new farmers get into the business.

But we can’t do it alone. We know there is great support in this community for more local food, but we must back the farms and farmers if we are to satisfy our community’s hunger for their harvests. We’re asking local food supporters to log onto Kickstarter.com and throw your weight behind this effort.

We’re looking to raise $10,000 in one lunar cycle, with a major finale at Broken Top Bottle Shop on Sept. 27. BTBS will offer a 100 percent local meal to tickle your tastebuds with local flavor. Local beers will flow and we’ll push this program over the edge with your support!
