The Oregon Moves Challenge – Get Moving for Two Good Reasons

0

In an effort to get Oregonians moving and put dollars into the hands of regional non-profits, LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon has launched the second Oregon Moves Challenge. Powered by EveryMove, a free, online fitness tracker, the Oregon Moves Challenge encourages Oregonians to get moving in order to raise money for six regional charities. Starting September 8 and continuing through November 23, LifeWise will pay $1 for each active day earned by participants in the Oregon Moves Challenge and will distribute up to $50,000 to the following charities:

o American Heart Association
o American Lung Association
o Brian Grant Foundation
o Playworks
o United Way of the Columbia-Willamette
o United Way of Deschutes County

“We are committed to being a health support partner for our members and the community. We know that choosing a healthy, active lifestyle has the power to not only improve personal health, but also our overall healthcare system,” said Majd El-Azma, president and CEO of LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon. “The Oregon Moves Challenge is a fun way to increase personal fitness while supporting these organizations and the great work they do to make a difference in the community.”

To get started, participants need to enroll online at www.everymove.org/ORmoves (there are apps for iPhone and Android but the charity challenge can only be viewed on the web version of EveryMove). Once someone signs up on EveryMove they’ll be able to enroll in the “Oregon Moves Challenge” and select a charity that will receive donations based on their number of active days.

EveryMove is a free, online tracker that helps consumers earn personal rewards by logging all kinds of physical activity. You can walk, run, swim, vacuum, dance – you name it. EveryMove will also sync up with most fitness devices to easily record actions that add up to an “active day.”

LifeWise sponsored an eight-week Oregon Moves Challenge in the fall of 2013 and distributed more than $16,000 to regional charities. “We’d like to write checks that total $50,000 this year,” suggests El-Azma.
