With more than 560 inches of recorded snowfall and 10 feet of snow still on the ground, Mt. Bachelor announced it will reopen its chairlifts for three days of skiing and snowboarding this summer. JulySki will run from Sunday, July 2 through Tuesday, July 4, 2017.
“Many long-time Central Oregon skiers remember spending Independence Day on the summit of Mt. Bachelor,” said John McLeod, Mt. Bachelor’s president and general manager. “With so much snow this winter, we can’t pass up the opportunity to bring back this tradition.”
Weather and snow conditions permitting, chairlifts will operate from 8am to 1pm for JulySki, with skiing and snowboarding offered from the Summit lift to the 9,065 foot peak of Mt. Bachelor. Sunrise lift will provide access from the Sunrise base area, where guests can park, buy tickets and rent equipment.
Lift ticket prices and other operating details will be announced in June after resort officials assess conditions on the mountain and determine the amount of skiable terrain.
This summer’s JulySki event will count as the ninth time in its 58-year history that Mt. Bachelor will offer lift-served skiing on the 4th of July. The resort last offered Independence Day skiing in 2011.
Mt. Bachelor’s winter ski and snowboard season continues daily throughSunday, May 28. In keeping with tradition, Finale Weekend will feature the BrewSki beer festival, live music and the North American Pond Skimming Championships.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES AT THE MOUNTAIN
After taking a break in June, Mt. Bachelor will launch its summer activities on Saturday, July 1, with scenic chairlift rides and mountain biking if conditions permit. Sunset Dinners at the mid-mountain Pine Marten Lodge begin a week later on Friday, July 7.
Bike park season passes are now on sale through the resort’s website. An All-Mountain bike park pass is $159 for adults and $109 for youth (12 and under) if purchased by July 16.
New this summer is a $49 all-age Sunshine bike park season pass, valid for the novice bike trails serviced by the Sunshine lift and an expanded skills park in front of the lodge. The pass is designed for parents and kids who desire an entry-level mountain biking experience, and can be upgraded to the All-Mountain pass anytime by paying the difference in price. The Clearing Rock Bar and outdoor deck will provide a comfortable venue for those watching the bike riders in the skills park area.
Mt. Bachelor will offer its popular Gravity Bike Camps again this summer for kids age 8 to 15. Weekly camp sessions begin July 10 and include transportation to and from the mountain each day. Limited spots remain at the $299 weekly rate, with the price increasing to $349 after June 16.
Several events will also headline Mt. Bachelor’s summer season, including the inaugural 10 Barrel GraviCrossduring the weekend of July 15, the Under Armour Mountain Running Series on July 22 and the third-annual Volcanic Bike and Brew Festival during the weekend of August 26.
