Justin Whitney, a former firefighter, has taken an innovative idea and turned it into a business that brings joy to local youth. 4 Alarm Fire Rentals is an authentic fire truck rental company that specializes in children’s birthday parties, community events, weddings and all kinds of special events.
“We have been in business for a little over five months and so far the communities’ response has been amazing!” said Whitney. “We have participated in Bend Summer Fest, several local business events as well as delivered an ever growing number of our fully interactive 60 minute birthday party packages. We have been a fellow firefighter’s ride from their wedding reception.”
4 Alarm is a family run business between Justin and wife, Kalani, “If I am the face of the business she would definitely be considered the heart and soul,” says Justin. “She handles the website, Facebook, financials etc. As well as raising our two children!”
The business idea has been on his mind for a lot of years, but time for execution was always lacking. “I have been a firefighter for over 14 years both in a career and volunteer capacity,” explains Whitney. “It is my one unwavering passion, besides my family. I was injured on the job a little over two years ago and was away from active duty due to surgery and subsequent physical therapy.
“This time away really became the catalyst for acquiring the truck and starting the business. During my years in the field I have time and time again witnessed the reaction and interest that people of all ages have when it comes to big red fire trucks. We knew we wanted to focus on children’s birthday parties and went about developing a fully interactive 60 minute party package that includes a fire themed game and a ride on the fire truck for all in attendance. The fire truck is fully staged like an active duty city truck with all of the tools and equipment that you would see on most any fire apparatus.”
The company is not just about profit, as volunteer work and giving back have always been near and dear to the Whitneys. “It is an important value that we are trying to pass down to our young children,” offers Justin. “We have donated a birthday party package this year to the Assistance League of Bend for their Gala auction next month and the fire truck will actually be on display at the event as well. We feel very strongly about giving back to our community.”
