The Oregon Innocence Project (OIP) is making its Central Oregon launch on Thursday, December 18 at 5:30 at a reception at the Central Oregon Social Justice Center, 155 NW Irving in Bend. The OIP aims to exonerate the wrongfully convicted, educate and train law students and promote legal reforms aimed at preventing wrongful convictions.
The Oregon Innocence Project plans to begin to analyze and take cases in Central and Eastern Oregon. The community is invited to welcome the Oregon Innocence Project and get to know the organization and some of their key people.
Oregon Innocence Project (OIP) is a joint project of the Oregon Justice Resource Center and Metropolitan Public Defender whose mission is to (1) exonerate the wrongfully convicted, (2) educate and train law students, and (3) promote legal reforms aimed at preventing wrongful convictions. OIP is the only program within Oregon whose sole mission is to actively track inmates’ claims of factual innocence, investigate those claims, test DNA and other scientific evidence, and litigate when appropriate.

The Central Oregon Social Justice Center is the realization of vision held for at least 15 years by a broad range of social justice allies in Central Oregon. The Center currently houses community and social justice groups, local public and private sector labor unions, and justice-seeking law firms under one roof in downtown Bend, Oregon.
