Awesome Bend has announced the finalists who will vie for its next quarterly grant of $1000 at Pitch Night on January 19th. The event will be held 6pm to 8:30pm at the Deschutes Brewery Tap Room, 1044 NW Bond Street in downtown Bend and is free and open to the public. Finalists will present their ideas for making Bend a better place to live, work or play and a group of ten trustees who each donate $100 to form the collective grant will select the winner.
The finalists include:
Bringing Art to Life: will provide an art program for children that teaches about sustainability by using reclaimed materials
Canine Care Kits: will help homeless people meet the basic needs of their dogs
Knot Alone: will donate fleece blankets made by local kids to cancer patients
She Can Scholarship: will fund girls to participate in climbing, cycling and nordic skiing programs
Teens: Seen and Heard: will lead a photo-journalism project and exhibit for teen girls to share the issues they care about
“Pitch Night is like Shark Tank for community good,” said Pam Stevenson, the Dean of Awesomeness. “We’ve been getting nearly 100 people at our events. This grant will mark the completion of our first year for Awesome Bend and we couldn’t be more pleased with our awareness and support in the community. And every single finalist this time involves local young people in some way. If that isn’t awesome, I don’t know what is.”
Awesome Bend’s mission is to inspire and support creative ideas to make Bend more awesome with money and mentorship to help turn them into reality.
