BEND, June 4, 2008 – The Central Oregon Climate Alliance (COCA) announced the launch of the third annual 2008 Energy Independence Campaign, an effort to change the amount of energy consumed by citizens, businesses and local governments Central Oregon.
COCA is throwing a party to kick off the event on Thursday, June 12 at the Central Oregon Environmental Center at 16 NW Kansas Avenue in Bend.
Last year COCA secured more than 400 pledges from citizens, resulting in the reduction of more than 3 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. This year, the organization’s goal is to increase pledges to 1,000 individuals and 100 businesses, according to a statement issued by COCA.
A pledge consists of a short list of easy-to-understand options that every person or business can adopt in day-to-day activities in order to change the amount energy consumed in the region. After signing the pledge, COCA will calculate how much CO2 an individual or business can save, the statement says.
The Energy Independence Campaign is funded in part by Pacific Power, Morgan Stanley, Energy Trust, and the Oregon Department of Energy, according to a press release issued by COCA.
