Take Part in a Free Workshop at the Redmond Library Tuesday, March 1, 5:30-7:30pm
Owning a small business is filled with rewards and challenges, but one way to minimize the risks is to learn the basics of business accounting.
“Understanding basic accounting will help you manage your business by quickly focusing on changing business trends and recognizing possible errors,” says Dave Kyle, a volunteer mentor and presenter with the Central Oregon chapter of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). Kyle will lead a free two-hour workshop on small business accounting at the Redmond Library on March 1 at 5:30pm.
“This knowledge will make it easier for small business owners to interact with their bookkeeper or CPA. And, if they are doing their own bookkeeping, they will understand the basic transactions that constitute the vast majority of business activity,” says Kyle.
Workshop attendees will gain a basic understanding of the balance sheet, double entry accounting, profit and loss, and the chart of accounts while actively participating in creating transactions that will help them learn these concepts.
“There’s no better way to learn how to do something than from experts who have been there and done that,” says Deschutes Public Library Community Librarian Jenny Pedersen. “That’s why we’re excited to partner with the professional mentors of SCORE to offer in-depth workshops to help support the Redmond business community.”
