Lisa X. Walden is a speaker, strategist and consultant dedicated to helping businesses create authentic, empowering workplaces that don’t inspire the dreaded Sunday scaries. Her presentations deliver action-oriented insights that help people better connect, collaborate and communicate.
Lisa is the co-author of Managing Millennials for Dummies and is deep in the trenches of planning her next book. She is a voracious consumer of all business-related books, podcasts, magazines and think pieces.

Carly Keenan
Anchor, Reporter and Weather Forecaster for NewsChannel 21 – KTVZ
Carly Keenan is an anchor, reporter and weather forecaster for NewsChannel 21 – KTVZ. Carly moved to Bend to start her career in February of 2021. She’s from St. Paul, Minnesota but went to the University of Kansas to study journalism and Spanish (ROCK CHALK!). In college, Carly went to many KU basketball games and was the president of her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega. She also got to study abroad in Salamanca, Spain — traveling is her favorite! Carly lives in Bend with her cat, Dobbi (named after her favorite Harry Potter character), and enjoys trying out different coffee shops, floating the river in the summers and listening to live music at many of Bend’s breweries. Carly’s favorite thing to do is meet new people and engage with her community. She’s honored and excited to be the MC for this year’s YP Summit!

“By any objective measure, the amount of significant, often traumatic change in organizations has grown tremendously over the past two decades” — John Kotter, Leading Change.
This quote, written in 2012 was true at the time but is even more relevant today. Within the past two years, we have seen the world and business climate become more volatile, uncertain and complex; and these forces have increased the rate of change for organizations exponentially. As leaders, we have to accept the fact that the world is changing faster than ever before and that our organizations are going to be in a constant state of change.
The question is, are we prepared as leaders to lead change effectively within our organizations?
In this workshop, we will define change leadership and explore the art and science of leading change. We will define best practices to equip you and your team to become more agile and aligned in your change initiatives.

City of Bend Panel: Housing, Homelessness and Climate
Moderated by Ben Hemson, Business Advocate, City of Bend
The City of Bend operates one of the longest standing Affordable Housing programs in the state, providing assistance for the development of deed restricted housing since 2006. In recent years, the Bend City Council has responded to community requests for action on Climate Change and Houselessness by creating new programs initiatives aimed at addressing these issues. Hear from City staff and Councilors on local efforts to address these challenges, where partner organizations help and how you can get involved.

Why Equity is a Business Imperative
Dr. Steven Nakana
Across sectors and industries, be it government, philanthropy, academia, health, finance, or information technology, “equity” is increasingly seen as not just a moral issue but as a business imperative. As a result of this shift, many organizations have embarked on the equity, diversity and inclusion journey. While equity is viewed as a business imperative across sectors, the relationship between equity and business bottom line is not clearly understood.
Lumping equity, diversity and inclusion (DEI) into a single concept creates confusion about this work. Within institutions, many people question the value of DEI work and some even say that DEI work is not part of their job, as it does not show within their job descriptions. What then is equity? Diversity? Inclusion? Why does DEI work matter, and why should you care?

We’ve listened to your feedback, and will spend the first part of the afternoon as a group to practice some key networking skills. Whether you’re comfortable walking up to someone new, tend to stick to familiar faces, or don’t even know where to start again, we’ll learn ways to network successfully and hopefully meet new people!

Continuing Education: Ways to Shape Your Future
Stuck at a crossroads of wondering whether to go back to school, pursue a professional certification, or find a mentor? Or maybe you have an idea for what’s next, but aren’t sure what to expect? This interactive panel of local leaders and experts from OSU-Cascades and COCC are here to answer your questions. We will hear from panelists on their experiences with plenty of time for questions.

City of Bend: Infrastructure and Planning for Growth
Moderated by Melissa Hodnett, Assistant Finance Director, City of Bend
Bend has consistently ranked among the fastest growing cities in the western US over the past decade. With this growth comes new roads, sewer and water lines, densification in certain areas, and, at times, the need to identify new funding sources. Hear from City staff working on infrastructure development and long-term planning and bring your questions on how Bend will develop in the future.

Negotiating: Raises, Benefits and Titles
Whether you’ve changed jobs, or been promoted, during the great resignation, are thinking about it, or assume that one day you will, salary and benefits negotiation are often top of mind when transitioning your career. To take some of the uncertainty away, this session will focus on research to do before being offered the job, how to navigate negotiations, time to practice strategies and how to take lessons learned to your next experience.
