If you ask 100 people to define wellness, you will get 100 varying answers. Some will suggest that eating a low-fat diet leads to wellness. Some would say that time with their grandchildren makes them feel healthier, or serving a nonprofit or shopping at a farmers market or hiking or going to church or to yoga or adopting a homeless animal—all support wellness.
On Friday, Sepember 11, Cascade Healthcare Community and The Council on Aging-RSVP with team up with more than two dozen Central Oregon non-profit organizations at the inaugural Healthy Hometown event to encourage and celebrate all aspects of physical, emotional, spiritual and community wellness. You are invited to this free community celebration—with an emphasis on fun!—to learn more about taking care of yourself and your world. Featuring music and entertainment, demonstrations and presentations, free health screenings and plenty of hands-on activities, Healthy Hometown will entertain, educate and emphasize participation.
September 11 is the National Day of Service and Remembrance, a perfect day to honor our community’s commitment to helping one another. A special focus of Healthy Hometown will be learning about the diverse volunteer opportunities available in Central Oregon that allow us to continue to nurture the health and well-being of our community as a whole.
Whether you discover that laughter is the best medicine, learn ways in which you can keep your family and environment healthier, discover opportunities to serve other Central Oregonians or enjoy free samples and educational presentations, Healthy Hometown encourages each citizen to become involved in his or her own personal health as well as the health of this amazing community.
Healthy Hometown will be from 10am-6pm at the St. Charles Bend campus. Attendees are also encouraged to visit the weekly farmers market at the hospital starting at 2pm. Of special note: all attendees will have the opportunity to enter to win a Wii Fit gaming system!
