Redmond Municipal Airport agreed to join a new state coalition created by Gov. Ted Kulongoski that will attempt to reverse the trend of airlines cutting service across the state.

Airports in Portland, Eugene, North Bend, Medford, Klamath Falls and Pendleton also have agreed to join the Commercial Air Service Coalition, which will look into strategies, including offering incentives to airlines, to preserve air service.

The coalition’s goal is to get business leaders and airline officials, who have been cutting flights on smaller planes due to increased fuel costs, talking to find out what resources can be pooled to keep regional flights operating, according to published reports.
