Bend Area Habitat for Humanity is excited to invite the community to a groundbreaking ceremony for the First Addition Townhomes on 1131 Greenwood Ave. this Friday, July 22 at 9am. Eric King, Bend city manager and Scott Rohrer, Habitat’s executive director will be a part of the ceremony helping to introduce the three families who will purchase these homes.
Bend Area Habitat decided last year that to continue to serve families affordably, they would have to change their model slightly and build single family, attached homes.
Says Rohrer, “The escalating cost of land is making it extremely difficult for us to build affordable houses that are so desperately needed in our community. The townhouses that we build, which are really fabulous homes, enable us to build more houses to help more people. We are actually quite slow in adding townhouses to the portfolio of housing types we build; other Habitat affiliates in high land cost areas have been building them for years.”
