Bend High Hosts Bite of Reality Personal Finance Simulation

0

On Thursday, February 27, students at Bend Senior High School got a Bite of Reality as they went through a personal finance simulation to give them a taste of budgeting, the stock market, personal savings, emergency spending, insurance and much more. All students enrolled in AVID or entry-level business classes participated in the event, and all Bend High students had the option to participate.

Students started with an assigned salary and possible spouse and children. From there, the students visited a variety of booths where they went through realistic financial experiences including buying insurance, having an emergency expenditure, investing in the stock market, buying a car and so on. The end goal was for students to develop a realistic budget and better understand personal finances.

“Budgets and finances can feel abstract for students, and this simulation helps make it real, with an interactive experience and every day examples,” said Bekki Tucker, organizer and Career and Technical Education Coordinator at Bend High.
