Bend, Oregon One of 52 Places to Go in 2015 According to The New York Times

1

If you think tourism is up in Bend, pay close attention to how busy it will get with the recommendation from The New York Times that listed 52 places from all over the world including Bend as best vacation destinations stating: Untrammeled oases beckon, once-avoided destinations become must-sees and familiar cities offer new reasons to visit. Visit Bend has been doing its job exceedingly well.

Each January the editors of the travel section of the Times publish a list of recommended vacation spots by contacting dozens of contributing writers with their ideas. They aim for a selection of places that they expect to be particularly compelling in the coming year such as a museum opening, a new transportation option or a historical anniversary. The other locations in the United States listed were Philadelphia, Yellowstone National Park, Orlando, Lower Manhattan, Steamboat Springs, Cleveland, New Orleans, San Antonio, Catskills in New York, Miami Beach, Tulsa and Taos Ski Valley.

This is what writer Dave Seminara had to say about Bend:

New Trails and Ales Beckon
Once a frontier logging town called Farewell Bend, this picturesque city of 80,000 is a seductive spot for travelers who are into craft brewing and the great outdoors.

The region has 26 breweries, three wineries, two craft spirit distilleries, two cideries and the Cycle Pub, a tour that allows visitors to quaff craft beers while powering a sort of mobile pub by cycling.

Two new distilleries, Cascade Alchemy and Backdrop, and a new cidery, Far Afield, are set to open this year.

Bend has nearly 300 miles of single-track mountain bike trails including two new ones, Tyler’s Traverse and Duodenum, a soon to open fat-bike trail at Wanoga Snow Park, world-class skiing at Mt. Bachelor and multiple options for hikers, fishermen, climbers, stand-up paddle boarders and kayakers.

He forgot to add golf!
