Bend, Oregon’s First Fashion Magazine, BEND FASHION QUARTERLY, Winter Issue Unveiled

Cascade Publication Inc. headquartered in Bend, Oregon, has launched a new magazine, Bend Fashion Quarterly (BFQ). Look for the free magazine in distribution locations all over Central Oregon. Subscriptions are also available. The new endeavor is slated to be Oregon’s premier fashion magazine …a unique periodical featuring fashion, design, style, trends and inspiration. The project was partially funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Bend Fashion Quarterly was not a well-planned venture. “It was a spontaneous idea, that germinated over wine and a conversation about shoes,” says founder Pamela Hulse Andrews who created Cascade Business News in 1994 and Cascade Arts & Entertainment in 1995.

Why in the world would anyone think that Bend needed a fashion magazine? That Central Oregon is big enough to have its own fashion magazine? That people would find it interesting, inspiring and readable?
“During this admittedly short creative process (about two months), I realized that innovators have always navigated the space between art and commerce,” continues Andrews. “That style is about your attitude, your clothes, your energy, how you take care of yourself.

“In Bend Fashion Quarterly, we discovered people who love fashion and deeply care about their community and have a preference for “shopping local.” The lovely models in the pages of BFQ all have stories of their own that they were willing to share with us. We found some were reclaiming their lives, establishing their own form of beauty and style. They simply look fabulous on these pages, but these photos barely capture their intrinsic beauty.

“Along the way, we discovered that this magazine has the potential to dig deeper than the original vision. We’ve created a series of “happiness” features by Maeve Perle, unique profiles of BadAss survivors and their exceptional styles by Jennifer Riker, spotlights on local designers of clothes, hats, shoes and purses and stories on local athletes and outdoor geeks who inspire us.”

The successful Kickstarter campaign boasts over 50 founding sponsors who are collaborating in various ways with BFQ. Cascade Publications Inc. staff Marcee Hillman, Kalea Aguon and Tori Youngbauer led the design, photography and editorial content for the new magazine.

“We hope you’ll find this magazine part of your happiness quotient: a go to place for finding and selecting your unique style, a resource for featuring the great things both women and men are doing in our communities, a niche for motivation and a showcase of design and creativity,” says Andrews.

“Whether you are male or female, our intent is for you to walk away armed with insights to captivate your style.”

The advisory board of BFQ consists of Chris Schroeder-Fain of Morgan Stanley, Joanne Sunnarborg of Desperado and Shoes & by Desperado, Georell Bracelin of Gb2 advertising, Professor Maeve Perle of www.livingahappierlife.com, Deanna Paik of Paik LLC, Jennifer Riker, co-owner Brave Collective and Attorney Jennifer Clifton, co-owner of Lava Love.

“So excited to have a magazine that is chic yet classic, informative yet intriguing, fresh and fun while honoring what is meaningful,” said Schroeder-Fain. “I’m very enthusiastic about its potential.”

“There’s more to Bend Fashion than fleece and down puffy jackets. The women who live here know it, want it and finally are being heard! Bravo to BFQ!” says Riker.

“Our artists, writers and marketing crew are working hard on layout and fun feature articles for our first launch of Bend Fashion Quarterly,” adds Krystal Collins, BFQ marketing coordinator who can be reached at krystal@bendfashionquarterly.com.
