Bend Spay+Neuter Project To Move to New Location

Local nonprofit makes an adjacent move to a space that will better accommodate the growing organization.

The Bend Spay+Neuter Project, which provides affordable pet care in order to keep pets and people together, is moving to a new location in early 2016. The clinic is currently located on Wilson Avenue and is moving across the parking lot to a larger space at 910 Wilson Ave A-1 in Bend. Founded in 2005, the organization provides low cost spay and neuter, wellness clinics and pet food for cats and dogs at risk of suffering in Central Oregon in order to create a more humane community.

“We had been considering several options to help accommodate the growing number of pets and people utilizing our services,” said Julie Hotchkiss, chair of the board for Bend Spay+Neuter Project. “When this location came available – literally right next door – we immediately saw the potential to create a better flow and environment for both our staff and our clients.”

Originally founded as a low cost spay and neuter clinic to help end pet overpopulation and homelessness by addressing its root cause, Bend Spay+Neuter Project has expanded to encompass an array of services to help keep pets and people together. Affordable preventative care is offered weekly at wellness clinics and food is distributed to those in need through the HOPE Pet Food Bank (in partnership with Bend Pet Express).

In addition, many community cats (sometimes referred to as feral cats) are altered through the organization’s “Trap, Neuter, Return” program to help end this tragic cycle.

Work is being scheduled for the new location to create an efficient layout with exam rooms, prep areas, a surgery and staff work spaces, as well as a spacious reception area for clients and their pets. A special pre-open house party is planned for December 15th, where interested community members can come see plans for the new space, ask questions and donate to help pay for renovations and the move.
