BendPoly, Bend’s new professional skills academy designed for university students and professionals, announce its first program, a 9th semester course in digital marketing at the Oregon State University’s Cascade campus in Bend for Summer 2015.

Digital marketing is a broadly-used term used to connect companies with their customers through digital and online channels. Digital marketers use the latest technology for delivering email, mobile marketing, social media, online customer communities and webinars to generate demand for their companies.

These are the skills the BendPoly Digital Marketing course has been designed to provide in one comprehensive six-week period. The course builds upon students’ foundation in higher education and delivers practical, real-world experience through access to a range of technology, delivered by industry experts. It also exposes students to companies actively hiring digital marketing talent, offering a real opportunity for job placement.

Students will benefit from a mix of career development and practical application skills for a range of digital marketing practices and technologies. The six-week course features four weeks of classroom instruction including guest lectures from business luminaries and two weeks of full-time team project work on real projects supported by Bend and Silicon Valley companies.

BendPoly’s mission is to bridge the vocational gap between higher education and industry. Bruce Cleveland, president and founder of BendPoly and a general partner with InterWest Partners, explains, “I founded BendPoly – with a lot of help from others – with the mission of bringing high paying, clean jobs to Bend and Central Oregon. To compete and win jobs today, college graduates need to know how to operate the machinery and tools of a service-based economy; applications that drive critical revenue functions such as digital marketing, customer success, sales operations, and others.

“This is what we are focused on at BendPoly; producing graduates with the skills industry demands. And, those jobs can be performed anywhere, not just corporate HQ. We want BendPoly graduates to be exposed to how wonderful Bend is and to be able to stay in Bend to work, raise families and help build a vibrant community in Central Oregon.”

Cari Baldwin, CEO of Blue Bird Strategies, a demand generation agency maximizing marketing automation ,is the chief instructor. She commented that there is a need for the types of skills that BendPoly students will acquire. “According to industry analyst IDC Research, the marketing software market is expected to grow to more than $32.3 billion in 2018. It will be one of the fastest-growing areas in high tech.’”

Students will learn from more than a dozen Bend area and Silicon Valley technologists in topics including: Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising, customer segmentation, buyer personas, engagement and advocacy, lead nurturing, content marketing, SEO and Google Analytics.

The course runs July 7-August 14 and the registration deadline is May 31, 2015. BendPoly will accept up to20 students for the inaugural course.
