Café Yumm! Finalist in 2015 Bold Steps Award Presentation

January 7 at 5:30pm Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy will deliver her State of the City address at the Hult Center and announce the winner of the 2015 Bold Steps Award. Café Yumm! is one of three finalists. The Bend Café Yumm! is located in the Old Mill District and Neff Place on the east side, other locations in Oregon include Corvallis, Lake Oswego, Springfield, Portland, Eugene, Salem and Wilsonville and Seattle, Washington.

Café Yumm! was selected as a finalist because it follows Triple Bottom Line business practices balancing social, economic and environmental considerations when making decisions. This includes, for instance, the following accomplishments:

• The first company in Oregon to become a Benefit Company (tied with 18 others) — The Oregon benefit company is a new corporate status for companies that aim to make a positive impact on society and the environment in addition to earning a profit. Some 19 states and the District of Columbia have enacted similar legislation for business corporations only. Oregon’s law includes corporations and limited liability companies.

• The first restaurant in Oregon to build a certified Gold level LEED for retail restaurant — LEED certified buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy.

• The first solar powered electric vehicle charging station at a restaurant in the nation.

• The largest restaurant company in the nation serving over 50 percent certified organic and all natural products.
