The Central Oregon Cat Alliance, a coalition of local animal welfare groups, will hold a Town Hall style meeting on Wednesday, January 20 from 6-8pm at Wild Ride Brewing in Redmond.
They will be discussing feral/stray cats in Central Oregon and the group’s plans to humanely reduce the population of stray/feral cats over the next several years. “Redmond has been identified as a hot spot for feral and stray cats and it is our hope that by hosting the event in Redmond we will encourage local residents to sign up to volunteer and help trap cats in their neighborhoods,” says Megan Gram of the Central Oregon Cat Alliance.
All are welcome to attend this free event. They encourage anyone with concerns or questions about cats to attend, whether your concerns lie with the cat/wildlife conflict, cats in your yard or if you are caring for outdoor cats in your neighborhood. “We will discuss our plans and our needs for volunteers as well as addressing the concerns of attendees,” continues Gram.
Since 2013, the Central Oregon Cat Alliance (COCA) has provided spay/neuter and vaccinations for over 3,000 feral or stray cats in Deschutes County and dramatically reduced cat intake at local shelters. COCA is a partnership between the Humane Society of Central Oregon, Brightside Animal Center, Bend Vet Clinic and Bend Spay and Neuter Project. The group aims to promote comprehensive, humane feral cat management programs in Central Oregon benefiting both wildlife and public health conditions in our community.
