Marking a decade of celebrating Spanish language and cultures, Central Oregon Community College’s community education department presents this year’s Central Oregon Summer Spanish Immersion program, June 22-25, at the college’s Redmond campus.

Offering language instruction for all levels, helpful facilitated conversations and fun seminars in subjects like history, film, literature and music, COSSI is an ideal experience for those looking to improve their Spanish for travel or work. Instruction comes from COCC professors and visiting Spanish educators. Open to ages 16 and up. Cost is $699; register at cocc.edu/cossi or by calling 541-383-7240.

COSSI includes a total of 12 hours of Spanish instruction — from beginner to superior levels — plus an additional 12 hours of facilitated conversation groups. Each participant chooses up to eight hours of elective sessions, such as The World of Alpaca, Costa Rican Coffee: The Golden Grain and Spain Today Through Film.”

New this year, the event includes several on-site food vendors and an all-student talent contest. The keynote speaker is District Court Judge Xiomara Torres of Oregon’s Fourth Judicial Circuit.

Attendees looking to earn graduate-level professional development credits for COCC coursework can obtain it through University of the Pacific.

First held in 2017, COSSI, a community education program, has drawn attendees from as far away as Washington, California, Idaho and Nevada.
