COCC Foundation’s Visiting Scholar Program Explores Science of Happiness

In a time of COVID-created stress and grief across the globe, a little happiness can go a long way. The Central Oregon Community College (COCC) Foundation’s Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program is pleased to announce its next spring event, titled The Science of Happiness, being held virtually at 6pm on Tuesday, May 25. Presenter Catherine Sanderson, Ph.D., is a professor and chair of psychology at Amherst College who was featured in the Princeton Review’s The Best 300 Professors publication. She will discuss new research in the field of psychological well-being, including the impacts of the pandemic on happiness.

Sanderson has received research support from the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Health, and is the author of several works on psychological health.

Since 1985, the Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program of the COCC Foundation has brought renowned scholars, lecturers and experts to the region. This event is sponsored by the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund, the Associated Students of COCC and Marjorie Meret-Carmen.

Board’s Student Success Committee to Meet

In other news, the Central Oregon Community College (COCC) board of directors’ student success committee will meet by teleconference from 3-4:30pm on Tuesday, May 25. The purpose of the board’s student success committee is to analyze data on COCC’s Indicators of Student Success in order to identify areas of strength and opportunity, formulate requests for additional data and help set strategic priorities for actions to improve results.
