Hundreds of high schoolers from across the state are expected at Central Oregon Community College’s Preview Day and Health Careers Expo combined event from 9:30am to 1pm on Friday, April 17, at the Bend campus.

Students will learn about educational pathways at COCC by taking class samplers with staff and faculty, tour the campus and facilities, hear about resources and engage with current COCC students. Learn more at cocc.edu/previewday.

“We’re merging these two annual informational events for the first time to create a complete opportunity for high school students to explore their interests in a hands-on way,” said Kayleen Schweitzer, assistant director of admissions, recruitment and outreach at COCC. “This is a unique day for students to connect with faculty and college students, to start envisioning their future.”

Organized into eight academic pathway groups, such as STEM, health sciences and public service, the event will offer hands-on demonstrations that match students’ interests, including culinary dish preparation, fire science training exercises, a biology lab experiment and a crime scene simulation. Students select the pathway that most appeals to them for specific information and engagement.

High schoolers interested in life at the residence hall can tour a suite, ask questions and stop by the ice cream bar staffed by current and future residence hall community assistants.

In advance of college events, persons needing accommodation or transportation because of a physical or mobility disability should contact campus services at 541-383-7775. For accommodation because of other disability such as hearing impairment, contact student accessibility services at sas@cocc.edu or 541-383-7583.
