Deschutes County Commissioner Patti Adair visited the Sunriver Police and Fire stations on February 18 to see first-hand the many building deficiencies the proposed Public Safety Building would mitigate. Police Chief Cory Darling, Fire Chief Tim Moor and Sunriver Service District Managing Board Vice-Chair John Ralston led Commissioner Adair through each facility pointing out the many issues and why neither meet “Essential Facility” nor industry standards.

The Deschutes County Commissioners voted unanimously to support the Public Safety Building project by approving a funding request totaling $8 million to be disbursed over the next three years. The Sunriver Service District will also contribute $3 million from their reserve fund, and the remaining $7 million will be borrowed with a low interest, tax-exempt loan. To service this debt, the Deschutes County Commissioners voted in favor (3-0) to approve Resolution No. 2022-006, submitting to the voters in the Sunriver Service District an election in May on a new 10-year capital improvement local option levy.

The Sunriver Service District is offering additional tours and upcoming forums to show the various deficiencies, present the latest information and answer any questions.
