Our hearts are filled with gratitude to all who contributed to our Legacy 25 capital campaign leading up to and at the event on April 1.
A special thank you to our title sponsors Aperion Management Group and Mike’s Fence Center for leading the way and rallying the Central Oregon business community at this event. With the $200,000 in corporate contributions made around this event, we are down to $572,500 left to raise before the grand opening in September 2026.
Global Youth Service Day
Bringing youth and staff together for a day of service, connection, and community impact!
Last Friday, Heart of Oregon youth and staff joined thousands of young people around the world in celebration of Global Youth Service Day — an annual movement led by Youth Service America that mobilizes youth in more than 100 countries to strengthen their communities through service.
At Heart of Oregon, this day is especially meaningful as it brings together youth from all of our year-round programs, alongside our full staff team, for a shared day of service. It’s a rare and energizing opportunity for our entire organization to come together, build connections, and work side-by-side on a single project.
Locally, this tradition runs deep. For over a decade, Heart of Oregon has partnered with the City of Redmond to complete stewardship projects in the Dry Canyon — and this year was no exception.
The day kicked off with team-building activities that brought participants together — including crowning a new reigning champion in our annual rock-paper-scissors competition — setting the tone for collaboration and connection. We also launched an interactive art experience centered on our future campus, led by Mark Jamnik. Youth and staff then shared a meal before heading out to roll up their sleeves and get to work.
And the impact? It adds up quickly.
With nearly 100 individuals contributing 2.5 hours of service, that’s approximately 250 hours of hands-on work completed in a single afternoon.
Crews focused their efforts along the Dry Canyon trail between the Weigand Family Dog Park and the water treatment plant, tackling a range of high-impact projects — including debris removal of old fencing and wood, fire fuels reduction, litter pick-up, spreading bark and gravel to maintain the disc golf course, painting kiosks and benches, and restoring high-traffic areas.
In just a few hours, participants made visible, lasting improvements to one of Redmond’s most beloved natural spaces — demonstrating the power of youth-driven service and what’s possible when a community comes together with purpose.
