Bend-La Pine Schools is hosting an Oregon Rising event May 12 at Summit High School.

Parents, students and community members are invited to share their thoughts and dreams for the future of Oregon schools during a community gathering at 6pm, May 12 at Summit High School.

This event is part of a statewide public outreach campaign called Oregon Rising, which is a collaboration between the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators, Oregon School Boards Association and the Oregon Education Association. The goal of the campaign is to collect thoughts through a survey from 10,000 Oregonians and to communicate those ideas to the state Legislature in 2017.

“This is an opportunity for Oregonians to dream big for the future of education,” said Superintendent Shay Mikalson.

The event at Summit High School is one of nearly 200 similar events slated to take place around the state. Following the Oregon Rising session, attendees will share their thoughts about education on a local level. Bend-La Pine Schools staff members and administrators will be on hand during the event to listen to the ideas brought forward. The event will include break-out sessions focused specifically on elementary, middle and high schools.

“We are very interested in learning what Oregonians imagine schools could be if there were no limits — and then developing a plan of action to deliver on our collective dream for Oregon students,” said Craig Hawkins, COSA Executive Director.
