The community is invited to tour a 27,000-square-foot mock-up of the new critical care unit planned for the St. Charles Bend campus on August 30 and 31. The replica will be made entirely out of cardboard and is being constructed to provide St. Charles caregivers and the community the chance to feel what it is like to work in the space and provide input.
The “cardboard city” will replicate the patient rooms, work spaces, family spaces and more planned for the ICU-portion of the new tower that will be constructed on the Bend campus. Those who walk through will have a better idea what it will feel like to physically be in the space than they would from reviewing architectural designs.
“It is much easier to move cardboard than it is to move real walls once they have been built,” said Todd Shields, executive operational leader for the new tower project. “This is an exciting event and we hope that as many caregivers, providers and community members as possible participate and provide feedback.”
The event will take place from 4-9pm on August 30 and from 6-9am on August 31 at a warehouse located at 20720 Brinson Blvd. in Bend.
Guided tours will last about 30 minutes. Participants will be asked to complete a 10-minute survey at the end of the tour.
