The Crook County Health Department is seeking participants for its free Band Together to Dodge Diabetes! prevention program to begin on January 26.

The CDC reports that 88 million Americans have pre-diabetes and more than eight in ten of them don’t even know they have it. Without taking action, many people with prediabetes could develop type 2 diabetes within five years.

Band Together to Dodge Diabetes! is a free program designed for individuals who have prediabetes or other risk factors for type 2 diabetes. Participants work with a lifestyle coach in an online group setting to make healthy lifestyle changes to prevent type 2 diabetes.

In addition to personalized support, participants will have access to a tablet computer, wireless internet, gift certificates for healthy food and other healthy resources. The program is a unique partnership between local health care providers, food distribution resources, nutritionists and grocery stores to provide a comprehensive network of support for participants.

“Band Together to Dodge Diabetes! truly represents how well Crook County residents come together to support our neighbors,” said Kylie Loving, Crook County Health Department Health strategist. “Now more than ever, we need community for our mental and physical health. We encourage anyone who is interested in this special opportunity to apply and begin their journey to prevent diabetes.”

Band Together to Dodge Diabetes! is open to any adult living in Crook County. The first class will be held Tuesday, January 26 at 3pm.

Interested individuals can call Kylie Loving at 458-231-4701 or visit dodgediabetes.org for more information.
