Deschutes National Forest and Discover Your Forest Host National Public Lands Day Event

The Deschutes National Forest and Discover Your Forest will host a free National Public Lands Day event this Saturday at Lava Lands Visitor Center.

The National Public Lands Day event will be held at Lava Lands Visitor Center, 58201 South U.S. 97, beginning from 11am to 2:30pm. Entrance to Lava Lands Visitor Center and Newberry National Volcanic Monument will be FREE in honor of National Public Lands Day.

Kids are the major focus of the day’s activities and they will enjoy an exciting Wilderness Explorer activity, which will run between 11am and 1pm. Participants will learn what makes Wilderness special, study Leave No Trace land ethics, become active scientists on the national forest, and participate in wilderness adventures and games. Kids completing the program will receive a Wilderness Explore Certificate and Wilderness Patch. The program is best suited for kids between the ages of 8 to 12, but younger and older kids may participate.

From 1:30-2:30pm Sunriver Nature Center will present their amazing Birds of Prey exhibit. People will be able to see the birds and learn about how they thrive and survive in the wilderness.
