Diverse Stakeholders Unite for 2024 Candidate Forum on Housing

A group of diverse organizations called Partners for Affordable Housing will host the 2024 Candidate Housing Forum to discuss solutions to Bend’s housing crisis with Bend City Council candidates from 5-7pm Monday, September 30 at Open Space Studios in Bend. KOHD will moderate the event. See event details below.

Partners for Affordable Housing is a new coalition that has formed to advocate for strategies to solve Central Oregon’s housing crisis. Members are asking elected leaders to do more to help builders and nonprofits get more homes built at lower costs so that everyone, including our essential workers like nurses, teachers and first responders can afford to live and work here.

Partners include Oregon Nurses Association, Bend Education Association, Bend Police Association, RootedHomes, Bend YIMBY, Central Oregon Realtors Association and Central Oregon Builders Association.

“Oregon Nurses Association is proud to participate in this candidate forum,” said Julie Bostrom, with the local chapter of Oregon Nurses Association. “It is essential that our local elected leaders are doing all that they can to lower housing costs for essential workers, including nurses—the health of our community truly depends on their leadership.”

A new website at partnersforaffordablehousing.com features the forum and highlights why the group has come together: to promote affordable housing solutions across Central Oregon. The group is reviving a former nonprofit previously called Building Partners for Affordable Housing, which helped provide low-cost land to home builders to help generate more affordable housing. Now the nonprofit will support collaborative advocacy among the partners.

In-person attendance is reserved for guests of the partners, but the event will also be streamed on YouTube. A video of the event will also be posted on the Partners for Affordable Housing website.
