Join us for November Green Drinks

November 14, 12pm at Smith Rock State Park.

November is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. This month, also referred to as American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, is an opportune time to learn about and support our tribal communities in present-day Central Oregon.

On Sunday, November 14, from 12-2pm, we invite you to join us at Smith Rock State Park for a special Green Drinks outing. We will gather at the amphitheater at the end of the park road for storytelling and warm tea from local farmer, Spring Alaska Schreiner, owner of Sakari Farms.

Please sign up in advance. We hope to see you there!

Virtual Film Screening

November 17, 6pm

In a time of perceived cultural divide between rural and urban, left and right, young and old, this film amplifies the voices of rural communities often left unheard and highlights stories of progress and hope.

We’ll be joined by Deschutes County Commissioner Phil Chang to kick off the event. After the film, there will be a Q&A discussion with featured leaders, including Nick Johnson and Jim Walls.

Want to hear something scary?

Each year, over a billion pounds of pumpkins are sentenced to landfills across the U.S. Head to our latest blog post for three tips to keep pumpkins out of Knott Landfill here in Deschutes County.

Hint: Pumpkins are accepted in your curbside yard debris bin for composting in Bend, Redmond and Sisters.

Garden Project at East Bend Boys and Girls Club

While our garden educators have been partnering with the Downtown Boys & Girls Club for the last decade, this summer was the first time we worked with staff and students at their East Bend Club to help install a small learning garden on site!

With great sun and existing irrigation, we helped to create both an in-ground plot and six “DIY self-watering” container bins. The teens in the summer program built, planted and maintained the garden. We look forward to continued garden projects and food education throughout the school year, and hope to plant the garden again next spring.

Check out these awesome progress photos!
