Following its feature in the COBA Tour of Homes, the first ever home in the Saginaw Sunset Community recognized with top certificate for sustainability by local non-profit, Earth Advantage.

As one of only 467 homes receiving this award to date, the first ever home in the Saginaw Sunset community has received Earth Advantage Platinum Certification, the highest of its caliber. This certification is for the home located at 1639 NW Scott Henry Place, Bend. The home, which was developed by Jim Guild Construction, is complete with rooftop solar, battery backup, elevator, EV charger and panoramic views of both Tumalo Mountain and Mt. Bachelor.

Earth Advantage’s mission is to accelerate the creation of better buildings through knowledgable building professionals and information to consumers through certification, research, education, and product development to move the building industry toward more sustainable practices. The certification program is for builders in that it helps them create energy efficient, healthy and resource-wise homes that add value for the homebuyer, saving 20 percent more energy than a home built to code on average.

The program standard requires projects to achieve a minimum number of points on a scoring sheet covering five categories over the course of two verification visits, including energy efficiency, healthy indoor air quality, resource efficiency, environmental responsibility and water conservation. Depending on the number of points earned, the projects may qualify for different levels of certification: Earth Advantage Silver, Gold, or Platinum.

“The Saginaw Sunset community is about the home building envelope, energy efficiency, renewable energy and air quality. It’s about water conservation, resource conservation – meaning preservation of old-growth trees within the community. And it’s about being an urban infill development – staying in the heart of Bend instead of expanding the City’s Urban Growth Boundary (UGB).”

Saginaw Sunset is a 20-lot development set at one of the few remaining infill properties in Bend, Oregon. The home at 1639 NW Scott Henry Place is set to be on the Bend Environmental Center’s Green and Solar Tour, which is scheduled for the last week of September 2015.

Founded in 1979, Jim Guild Construction is a residential building company located in Bend, Oregon.
