Saturday, March 3 from 2 – 6pm

In support of an international Rotary effort to eradicate polio, The Greater Bend Rotary Club will again offer Pints for Polio. Participants will get a 6-oz. sampling of craft beers from over a dozen participating pubs.

Cost is $25 per person, and all proceeds from the event go to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which funds children’s vaccinations worldwide. All funds will be matched 2 to 1 by the Gates Foundation. Attendees will receive a commemorative End Polio Now cup and a map to the participating pubs.   Each pub will pour a six-ounce taste of beer.

For more information or to register, go to www.PintsforPolio.org or call Joel Thomas (Pints for Polio Chair) at (541) 749-0654.

About Global Polio Eradication Initiative: The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) is committed to achieving a polio-free world. Rotary is a spearheading partner in the GPEI, along with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Gates Foundation. The goal of the initiative is the global certification of polio eradication.

Through the work of GPEI, more than five million people, mainly in the developing world, who would otherwise have been paralyzed, are walking because they have been immunized against polio, and more than 500,000 cases of polio are prevented each year due to the efforts of governments and GPEI partnership. Transmission of the polio virus has been stopped in all but three countries – Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria  – and the virus is being contained within increasingly smaller geographic areas within those countries.
