U.S. Rep. Greg Walden (R-Hood River) will be in Central Oregon Tuesday, August 9, making stops in Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson Counties. Walden first heads to Madras for a tour of the Daimler Trucks North America facility where they recently began work on a new semi-truck test track, a project that will help add jobs and help grow the local economy.
Walden will then host a roundtable discussion with Jefferson County community leaders, including county commissioners, city officials and Madras Mayor Royce Embarks. Next, Walden will be in Prineville to meet with members of the Prineville Rotary Club. At these meetings, Walden will give an update on efforts in the House to improve forest health and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire. He will also discuss a major new law to help fight drug addiction, as well as efforts to improve mental health services in local communities.
Later, Walden will visit Bend Research, one of Central Oregon’s leading biotech companies, to tour their new commercial manufacturing facility. There, Walden will discuss the 21st Century Cures Act, a landmark medical research bill passed by the U.S. House that would streamline the regulatory process for developing new treatments and cures for deadly diseases.
