On October 23, Hawthorn Healing Arts will open its doors for a FREE offering of services to celebrate International Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day. From 3-7pm, the community is invited to come in for free acupuncture, reflexology, cupping, group Qi Gong and massage.
Providers at the center will give talks and demonstrations about eastern medicine philosophy and treatments, and refreshments will be served. For the third annual AOM day celebration, Hawthorn joins the international effort to increase public awareness of the progress, promise and benefits of acupuncture and Oriental medicine.
Open House will feature opportunities for residents of Central Oregon to learn about and experience the traditions, practice and benefits of Oriental Medicine. Free offerings include Shiatsu, Postural Assessment & Alignment, Ear and Scalp Acupuncture with foot shiatsu, Essential Oil Treatments on acupuncture points, hand and foot massage with oriental cupping, energetic clearing and much more!
Presentations will explain the history of Chinese Medicine, its uses and how Eastern practices of medicine differs from and is complementary to Western medicine.
Led by Kellie Chambers, L.Ac., MAOM, Hawthorn Healing Arts Center’s practitioners offer a collaborative approach to holistic health, contributing their expertise to offer this event. Other participating practitioners include Chelsea Phillips, L.Ac., MSOM, Kerie Raymond, ND, Sarah Reynolds-Jackson, LMT, Deborah Stevens, CR, Shawn Axten CST-D, Barbara Largent, MD, Elizabeth Mara and students from a local massage school.
A survey by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine found that approximately one in ten adults had received acupuncture at least one time and 60% said they would readily consider acupuncture as a potential treatment option. Nearly half (48 percent) of the individuals surveyed who had received acupuncture reported that they were extremely satisfied or very satisfied with their treatment. In addition, one in five (21%) of the total NCCAOM survey respondents reported that they had utilized some other form of Oriental medicine besides acupuncture, such as herbs or bodywork (e.g., shiatsu).
