High Desert Educational Agricultral Tours (EATs): A Debut Agri-Tourism Series in Jefferson County

There are still tickets available for the Water Tour in Jefferson County on Saturday, June 11 from 9am- 1pm. Tickets are $5 with a $1.19 service fee and include a shuttle service to the three stops on the tour.

HIGH DESERT EATs WATER TOUR
Have you ever wondered how farmers and ranchers grow food here in the high desert on an average of 12 inches of rain per year? On June 11 High Desert Educational Agricultural Tour participants can visit three businesses learn how agricultural producers have adapted their practices to meet our water lean environment.

The tour will meet at the Madras Saturday Market and start out with a visit Fox Hollow Ranch to learn about the progressive and efficient water systems growers are using locally. The tour will then proceed to the Earth2O facility in Culver to see where some of the world’s best water comes from.  The last stop will visit North Unit Irrigation District to hear about the ongoing water conservation efforts in central Oregon and how they manage 59,000 acres of irrigation! All participants are entered in raffle to win a Hydroflask.

ADDITIONAL TOURS
There will be three additional educational themed farm tours throughout the summer.

  • June 25- Beverages (recommended for adults over 21)
  • July 9- Seeds and Pollinators
  • August 13- Field Crop Farms

Tours include shuttle service to all farm stops. The Seeds and Pollinators tour includes lunch and the Beverages tour includes wine, beer & spirits tasting along with lunch.

The High Desert EATs series is a project of a group of volunteers dedicated to highlighting agricultural production in Jefferson County and the High Desert Food and Farm Alliance.
