Get ready for the holidays with a live radio variety show highlighting the abundant performing arts talent in Central Oregon.
The High Desert Home Companion is a benefit for KPOV, Central Oregon’s High Desert radio station. The High Desert Home Companion will feature live music, an old time radio show, sketches, mock ads and storytelling. The show hits the stage on Saturday, November 18, at 7 pm at Bend’s Community Center.
Acts scheduled to appear include: Joel Chadd (Trailer 31), Matthew Gwinup, Jumpin’ Joyce Respess, and The Abluestics. led by Thomas T. Dan Cohen will offer a humorous story about his Russian grandfather. The show will also feature The Around the Bend Players with Brad Thompson, Judi Van Howeling, Barb Largent. Thomas T. will satirize Bend and beyond, plus offer news and sponsor announcements.
“It’s time to put a Central Oregon spin on a time-honored format”, said show organizer, Mike Ficher. “We have talented musicians, gifted actors and a wonderful storyteller who will combine to offer a memorable variety show for Central Oregon.”
“Producing a live radio variety show is a natural extension of our mission and function as a community radio station,” said Jill Mahler, station manager. “We’re excited about the opportunity to present High Desert Home Companion and hope to make it a regular offering from KPOV.”
KPOV is a listener-supported, volunteer-powered, nonprofit community radio station that broadcasts at 88.9 FM and live on the web at kpov.org. KPOV is radio by the people and for the people of Central Oregon; strengthening community, arts, culture, and democracy through grassroots participation in independent, non-commercial radio.
