We know, this question might sound strange to you: why would you buy an Instagram account when you can create one yourself – and not pay a dime for it either? You see a few cheap Instagram accounts for sale and you wonder why you would even consider paying for them – particularly since we’re talking about a free platform.
Well, it is not as simple as it sounds – and there are various reasons why people decide to buy an Instagram account. It may come with repercussions if you are not careful – but nonetheless, things do not sound as bleak as you would think.
Why Do People Buy Instagram Accounts?
There is one big reason why people buy Instagram accounts: to get more exposure and to create a brand image. Sure, you can create your own Instagram account – but you may have to do quite a lot of work to get that account higher up the newsfeed. He reached 20k followers on Instagram, which he worked hard for over the course of the past two years – and has achieved the exposure that he needed to get his brand out there. It may have taken quite a lot of time – but all that work and investment eventually paid off.
Now, let’s say that Jack has also created his own business – but instead of getting the followers himself, he decided to go ahead and buy an Instagram account. With that, he had quite a number of followers – and before long, his brand became more popular than Joe’s. Obviously, for Joe (who worked very hard for this) it did not seem fair that Jack had become so popular, so fast – and all without doing any sort of difficult work.
But Is It Illegal?
While it may be frowned upon, technically, it is not illegal. The only time when Instagram may have issues is when the account is bought with fake followers – just to fool other people into following you a well.

As long as you are posting relevant content for those followers, Instagram won’t think that there is something fishy going on with the account. They will simply think that you are doing normal business as usual.
In the end, no one stops you from buying Instagram accounts. You won’t be going to jail for doing so either. But if Instagram thinks that there is something weird going on with your account, they have full authority to shut you down.
