January Boys & Girls Club Updates & Events

We have five teens running for Youth of the Year, a recognition program celebrating young people ages 14 to 18 for their commitment to community service, academic success, good character, leadership and long-term goals. With the local event being only a month away, our teens are working hard to complete their essays, put together resumes and cover letters, and rehearse speeches.

As part of the program, Boys & Girls Club teens took a “quesadilla break.” “It’s fun to practice cooking foods they will be able to replicate in the dorms,” said Teen Director Sarah Rosa. “This month, we are partnering with various departments at COCC to do tours around campus and career-building exercises. My hope is to help give them more exposure to different career options and college campuses so they are comfortable pursuing these options.”

The Club will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. The Club Closure Calendar has a complete list of Club closures for the 2019-20 year. Also keep in mind that snow and icy conditions may affect Club operations. Find out more about that in the Inclement Weather Policy.

Bend La Pine Schools will be closed on Friday, January 31, but the Club will be OPEN from 7:30am-6pm. We are accepting registrations at our Downtown location (500 NW Wall Street). Register before January 30 and receive a discount. There are a limited number of spaces available, so do not wait to register! Members who attend our East Bend location will be shuttled to the Downtown location. Please reach out to Brandy Richardson at brichardson@bgcbend.org for questions about programming and Presley Quon at pquon@bgcbend.org for questions about billing and payment.
