VegNet Bend is hosting a Spring Wellness Jumpstart event at the Tower Theatre on April 17 at 4pm. The event’s focus is to provide inspiration and support for a radically healthy, life-changing diet through the benefits of a plant-based diet.

The event line-up includes a screening of the film Plant Pure Nation (a follow-up to the popular Forks Over Knives), audience Q&A with panel of medical professionals expert in plant-based medicine(including two medical doctors, a nurse practitioner, a psychologist and a dietician), free mentoring with a month long campaign to help transition people to a plant-based life, and more.

The event is free, but donations are accepted.

“It is estimated that about 80 percent of all chronic diseases are attributed to lifestyle.  One of the best ways to reduce the risk for, or even reverse, diseases like type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, hypertension, and obesity is to adopt a mainly whole foods, plant-based diet,” noted Dr. Brenda Johnson, a Bend-based internal medicine physician who is opening Johnson Lifestyle Medicine LLC in order to help patients focus on these healthy habits.

“This type of dietary lifestyle is good for your health, the animals and the planet,” stated Judy Petullo of VegNet Bend.  “We are excited that so many individuals and groups have come out to sponsor the event, including St. Charles Health System and a host of restaurants, businesses and non-profits.”

Plant-based foods are a fast-growing sector of the economy – a $3.5 billion industry – as business entrepreneurs respond to calls from health organizations like American Heart Association, and international institutions like United Nations, recognizing the need to shift towards a plant-based diet, for both health and environmental benefits.

VegNet Bend was founded in 2008 by Judy Petullo.   The non-profit promotes education and demonstration of the healthiest lifestyle: a plant-based diet for our bodies, our world, and all the creatures who share it.
