Keeping Your Business Energy Efficient

0

You have many things to worry about when you run a business, but there are other considerations that you also need to know. One of them is how your company is working to be energy efficient. Customers are increasingly looking to buy from companies that are moving towards energy efficiency, so if you can show you are doing the same, it can be a big plus. Here are a few tips on how you can make your company energy efficient.

Fuel Bills

One of your biggest costs to your company is your energy bills, the more you can reduce this, the better it will be for your finances, and the more efficient you will be. One way to do this is to look at all of the energy companies to see if you can get a better rate, though this won’t reduce your usage, it will save you money. You can also think about using another form of fuel that might be more cost effective and efficient. You could have a propane tank fitted so you can use propane for your heating instead of other fuels.

Worker Training and Understanding

If you can train your staff to understand the cost of wasting energy and the impact on the planet, then they can learn to be more careful with the energy they use. For example, they can start to turn off lights in the room where no-one is working or closing doors to keep heat in the rooms. These small changes can add up to a lot of savings and less fuel usage. As well as training, put up a poster to remind your staff of the importance of conserving fuel. You should also do the same for water usage so that can also be conserved.

Change to Energy Efficient Bulbs

Many office buildings traditionally used fluorescent tubes in their lighting. However, there are other types that are even more efficient such as LED bulbs. If you can swap all of your bulbs for LEDs, not only will you save energy, but the bulbs also last a lot longer.

Make Computers Energy Efficient

If you have older computer systems, then these might not be as efficient as newer types. If you invest in newer models, then they can be set to go into standby mode when not in use. That can save you a lot of energy over the year. If you also use servers in your company, then these can be set similarly so that they rest when not in use. You could also consider placing your servers in the cloud, so you don’t have them physically in the building. It will save space and reduce energy usage.

If you are looking to reduce your energy use, you can use any or all of these ideas to help you. You can also consider other options such as motion sensitive lighting, and solar power to help reduce costs and increase energy efficiency. It will also be something you can promote to your customers.
