KPOV, High Desert Community Radio, will broadcast the 18th annual National Homelessness Marathon from 8pm Wednesday February 17 to 6am Thursday, February 18. The Homelessness Marathon is the only national broadcast to focus on homelessness.
For 10 hours, this almost entirely live broadcast will discuss a raft of topics pertaining to homelessness, including the ways in which poverty is now being criminalized around the United States and alternatives to current homeless policy.
The Homelessness Marathon’s mission is to raise consciousness about homelessness and poverty in America and around the world.
Organizers hope the marathon can help to ignite a national dialog about what needs to be done to end homelessness. The Marathon will include interviews, poetry, and news reports from and about homeless people around the country. The state of homelessness, poverty and what is and can be done to prevent both will also be examined in a variety of accounts.
The 18th Annual Homelessness Marathon will originate from Washington D.C., starting at 4:00 p.m., PT, on Wednesday, February 17th and ending 14 hours later at 6:00 a.m., PT, on the morning of Thursday, February 18th. (KPOV’s Broadcast begins at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday February 18th).
