KPOV Works to Connect with the Community During Fall 2018 Membership Drive

KPOV 88.9 High Desert Community Radio is holding its fall membership drive from October 12 -20. KPOV is the only non-profit public radio station originating from Bend, broadcasting throughout Deschutes County and the Prineville area. It is supported by listeners and local businesses and powered by volunteers.

Noncommercial community radio is grassroots media created by local volunteers seeking a voice in broadcasting that truly represents the people.

KPOV has been serving as that voice in Central Oregon for 13 years. The community station went on the air for the first time on June 25, 2005 as a two-watt, low-power FM station reaching the Bend area. KPOV’s Bond Street studio was built and operated by volunteers. All original programming was produced by volunteer local DJs, as it still is today.

KPOV is now a full power station serving most of Central Oregon.

“From our first day, KPOV has worked to build connections across Central Oregon through homegrown radio.  We connect our listeners with local people discussing local issues, real news and analysis, live local music, and DJs from the community playing music they select themselves,” says Station Manager Jill Mahler. “KPOV is true community radio, created by the people and for the people of Central Oregon.

”The goal of KPOV’s fall membership drive is to raise $28,000 to help support KPOV programming and operations.

To show its appreciation for supporters who join or renew with KPOV by the Membership Drive’s first day, KPOV will be holding an Early Bird Prize Drawing. “Early donors get our membership drives off to a strong start and encourage others to jump on board,” Mahler explains.

All membership pledges or donations received before 3pm on October 12 will be entered into a prize drawing for a $50 gift card to Moose Sisters Restaurant. Pledges and donations can be made at kpov.org or 501 NW Bond Street, Bend, OR 97703.

The Membership Drive has two grand prize drawings: one is for a $100 gift certificate to Harry Richie’s Jewelry in Bend and the other is for $150 gift certificate to The Humble Beet on Newport. All who donate during the drive are entered into a drawing for that valuable prize.

KPOV also offers thank you gifts at various member levels. Gifts include a KPOV logo beanie; one pound of coffee from Strictly Organic; local, hand-made ceramic mugs by Bend’s Mug Revolution; and more.

KPOV is a listener-supported, volunteer-powered, nonprofit community radio station that broadcasts at 88.9 FM and live on the web at kpov.org. High Desert Community Radio offers locally-produced programs not heard on any other radio stations in the area, including civic affairs, election coverage, and the most diverse music programming in Central Oregon. KPOV also features several nationally syndicated programs, such as Democracy Now!, that no other stations broadcast in our area.

Underwriting is available and affordable for nonprofit organizations and local businesses. For a program schedule, underwriting information, to donate or to volunteer, call 541-322-0863 or visit the website at kpov.org.
